1991 Jumbo California Sunflower Seeds: Autograph Series II #8 of 24

A mouthful for sure. Had one of these on my Ebay "Watch List" for some time, picked it up at a card show for a quarter...

"Limited Edition" indeed! MLBPA goodness...

1992 Investor's Journal #64

Those of you who live in or around the Southeastern Michigan area are more than likely to be familiar with Gibralter Trade Center in beautiful Mt. Clemens. A weekend public flea market, the GTC has held a monthly sports card show for as long as I can remember. It used to be huge, but with cheaper prices, a wider selection, and overall shopping ease, the internet and it's affiliates (Ebay, Checkoutmycards, Sportlots, etc.) have rendered most local card shows obsolete. I attend the show on a monthly basis, but usual end up going for and leaving with only supplies (which I get there for super cheap!). But this weekend...

Photobucket

...I left with a few Cecil cards that A) I didn't have, and B) I never knew existed!

Photobucket

This is just one of five I picked up. It's from a magazine called Investor's Journal, which was described to me as a serious card collector's guide to making money from card collecting. In the 90's. Forgive me if the sarcasm doesn't translate well.

The other four cards from my weekend booty will be the subject of later posts this week. Stay tuned and "Stay classy Indiana" (a great quote courtesy of University of Michigan play-by-play announcer Frank Beckmann after the Indiana student section cheered because Michigan QB Denard Robinson appeared to get injured on a play).

Both cards are slightly over-sized. Couldn't find either on Ebay, which makes them... rare(?).

1990 Donruss "Learning Series" #26

Part of a special 55-card set distributed to teachers/schools in 1990, the "Learning Series" cards featured the original design and color of the base along with photos that differed from the players base card. As far as I can tell, Cecil was the only player featured who did not have a regular card in the base set...

***Sorry everyone, had a long weekend of work, weddings, and minor league baseball. Oh yes, I did pick up a Cecil Fielder bobblehead this weekend). Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...***

Wow.

There's really not much to say. By now everyone has seen Sportcenter or logged on to a computer (It's the lead story on most internet news pages such as MSN.com). I'll always remember that time me and my dad saw Armando Galarraga pitch a perfect game, even if the record books don't reflect as much. Great game AG.

2006 Topps Co-Signers "Solo Sigs" #SS-CF

A little something from the higher-end of the Cecil card spectrum. This is probably his most affordable Topps certified autograph for the simple fact that it's a "Solo Sig". He has a couple other in the '06 collection that also feature the auto's of his son Prince and Ryan Howard, which routinely sell for over $50 on Ebay. I've also seen a Jim Leyritz Co-Signer.
